Here’s our assessment of some of the more fantastically beaten runners from Saturday’s race Caulfield, Newcastle and Morphettville.

forgive me
Wedding Waltz ($3.90) – Caulfield R1 (1100m)
Started well the favorite but was one of the first horses under pressure after the first pair of races. There were excuses though, with jockey Linda Mitch telling stewards that her mount had gone tongue-tied. Phil also slowly recovered.

Crackerjack Prince ($8.50) – Caulfield R2 (1400m)
He hasn’t really been hard to market, but Crackerjack Prince is worth blackbooking this run. He went out slow and came back on the inside in a race that was completely dominated by the speedsters. Jayla Kennedy found herself in an awkward position at the top of the straight, but the Alexander-trained gelding hit the line beautifully to take 3rd place under her heavy weight.

Our Red Morning ($4.20) – Caulfield R3 (1400m)
The performance, completed by 6.31L winner Fancify, after tracking the horse, seemed too bad to be true, and it proved to be. A post-race endoscopy revealed a pulmonary hemorrhage caused by the degree of internal training that may have had an adverse effect.

Elphinstone ($3.80) – Caulfield R4 (1600m)
Drift was on point here, with Elphinstone an impressive winner of course. However, it was a forgivable performance after racing in a tight and confined room stage by stage. The stewards pointed out that he misjudged the whip in the nose from the opposition ring near 200 meters. Maybe the winner is pretty handy too.
Will definitely make sure of it 💌

Imperial Force ($3.30F) – Newcastle R1 (1200m)
whipped 3.24 l. I got into it fine but was out of the sprint – not sure if that was a major factor or not (nothing in the stewards report). First two starts were on Good 4 ground where he ran 2/1 (3.81l win) so you tend to forgive his first outing on a heavy deck.
Perfumer ($7) – Newcastle R1 (1200m)
With a big run from the draw and jockey Rachel King said he couldn’t handle the heavy.

Our Merrion ($8) – Newcastle R4 (2200m)
Ride on Heavy first, also for the rest of the trip, and beat over 22L.
However, Jock stated that everything went wrong in the middle of the road, so he was ready to justify everything.

Wategos ($5.50) – Newcastle R7 (1200m)
Things didn’t go the horse’s way at all here – jockey Ben Locker said he really had to ask the horse to go early to try and get him up to speed, but he wasn’t rallying adequately. So when he tried to charge, the horse ran too fast. Keep in mind that this was his first start at Heavy in over a year, and there are several excuses.

forget it (bag)
Final Assembly ($10) – Caulfield R10 (1200m)
There’s a lot of betting drift and it’s easy to see why. The former Queenslander was happy to pick up the pace but offered very little outright. His two runs after entering the Moody and Coleman camp were all too ordinary.

Amelia’s Jewel ($4.40) over 1200m – Morphettville R8 (1200m)
We won’t be alone in chasing Amelia’s jewels for her Sprint trip. The addition of blinkers really backfired here for the first time, with the star WA mare missing a kick and settling in the tail. That’s where he stayed for the rest of the race, failing to make any sort of impact in the Group 1 Goodwood (1200m). It will be interesting to see what Annabelle Nesham can do in preparation for the next 4YO Mare. Surely getting it back to the tube would be a priority?
Jamie Caughey will take on another group first in South Australia.

Green Shadows ($7.50) – Newcastle R5 (1600m)
An eerily similar three-start preparation for this fellow in the spring/autumn – a great first run followed by a couple of sloppy efforts.

Goldman ($2.60 F) – Newcastle R6 (2200m)
Using Hezashocka as a guide, Goldman lost a couple of lengths in the run here so was inclined to pass him if he came out again soon. A similar thing could also be said for a few other people in this race, looking at your upcoming history ($9).
shocker? You are welcome!

The jury is out
Communicable ($5) – Caulfield R1 (1100m)
It was an anti-social effort from this galloper who weakened after a race at speed. It has been single-handedly tested, but maybe it will be better to get rid of the speed. Worth watching again, but need to show more next time.
Cuban Link ($8) – Caulfield R8 (1400m)
The race didn’t go to his liking, but it was still a bit of a rushed effort from Cuban Link. Bull told stewards he thought he heard respiratory noises from Eurell’s galloper, but vets saw nothing to indicate he was in trouble. It has been 14 starts since his last win.
Bossy Nic ($4.60) – Caulfield R7 (1400m)
‘Nick’ moved into the race for a big goal rounding the final bend and was there to win at the top of the straight, but it was easy when it counted. It might be worth a look on an even drier surface, but it was a regressive third.
The favorite gets the money 💰

Dedicated ($7) / Gentleman Roy ($8.50) – Caulfield R8 (1400m)
The Devoted and Gentleman Roy both beat it by a wide margin here (12.1L and 9.1L respectively). First settled behind the leaders from the first barrier but hit the wall about 300m from home. It has clearly been tested, so perhaps the condition of the track could be to blame. “Roy” was below par, but it was the first in nearly a year, so it’s definitely worth another look. The jury is out on whether he can return to the best of his group class.
All looks are outward 💀

Frigid ($2.40) – Caulfield R9 (1600m)
Gray was uncharacteristically awful here, the usually always reliable, well-supported favorite was beaten over 10L, but pulled up without irregularities. It is difficult to forgive him for the lack of obvious excuses. It drives heavy, so it’s hard to fault the track.
Tavi Time ($1.95 F) – Newcastle R8 (1600m)
Not the ultimate bag by any stretch (the horse has won six of 12 and is yet to run a bad one!), but had the edge on the home deck on Saturday and was beaten 2.5L as the hotpot favourite. Of course, the last two races he ran were $1 million and $500,000, so if anything is easier for him, you can bet he’s not going to lift his toes (his “worst” career race saw him beat around 2.75L). But he won’t win the top three, so I want him to regain his winning form soon. Holds an early nomination for the G1 Doomben Cup (2000m) which shows how much he is respected.

On foot ($1.85 F) – Newcastle R9 (900m)
After moving from Gosford to Newcastle, the shortening of the race (from 1000m to 900m) suited the speedster – although he crossed the stream early on and couldn’t find the front without overshooting. So jockey Rachel King finished third in the run, but the horse only struggled after that because he really prefers to bowl forward. Granted, it was also the first since July, so you have to take the performance with a grain of salt.
