He’s already played in the world’s biggest club football game, now one former Arsenal and Liverpool ace wants to step into the squared circle.
Jermaine Pennant wants to break into the world of high-profile boxing – but he’s refusing to fight Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney.
Pennant, 41, revealed he had previously been offered the chance to shake hands with another celebrity in the squared circle. The former Liverpool midfielder played in the 2007 Champions League final, but made a name for himself beyond the beautiful game.
He is known for his controversial appearance on Celebrity Big Brother in 2018, where he was the fourth housemate to be evicted. Celebrity boxing is all the rage these days, especially when it comes to promotions like the Misfits.
Pennant insisted he would be willing to go, provided he did not fight Rooney, who said he had been approached by celebrity boxing promotions since his release from Birmingham City.
“I’ve been asked to do celebrity boxing matches in the past, but I’m more of a lover than a fighter, so I’ll have to think about it,” Pennant said, speaking on behalf of FastestPayoutOnlineCasino.com.
“I’ve turned one down in the past and it depends on who I’m fighting. If I’m fighting an absolute lunatic, then absolutely not!
“No, I don’t think I will fight Wayne Rooney, he likes his boxing and I want to fight at my level, someone who has never done it before. He would have that advantage. I don’t have one mind and I’m not a fighter, but we’ll see!”
Rooney had never stepped foot in a boxing ring before, but former Stoke City star Phil Bardsley knocked him out in his living room. Days before Manchester United took on Tottenham Hotspur in 2015, a video of Bardsley catching the former England captain with a huge hook on the chin went viral.
The force of the impact knocked the forward to the floor of his living room, where he lay motionless. In a direct hit from this clip, Rooney celebrated his goal in the 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur by shadow boxing before collapsing on his back.

It is still regarded as one of the most iconic Premier League celebrations in recent history. And Rooney recently hinted that he is considering a move into the world of star boxing.
Speaking on Gary Neville’s Stick to Football podcast, Rooney said:[You] You never know. They got in touch and asked, but at the moment I want to focus on getting back into management, not boxing.
He added: “They just came together to fight. There were a few that were Misfits and it was all over the news or something. My focus is back on management. I’ve seen the headlines over the last few days, but the main focus is getting back to football.
