The West Ham star’s wife has slammed Jarrod Bowen’s Hammer of the Year award and reposted it.

It was a day of thanks, appreciation and respect at West Ham on Saturday.

West Ham fans said goodbye to David Moyes, Angelo Ogbonna and maybe one or two others.

A shadow fell on the annual lap of honor that was due to follow West Ham’s final home game against Luton when the visitors took an early lead which they held at half-time.

Cheers rang out around the London Stadium after another poor effort.

However, they came full-time. West Ham came from behind to win 3-1 and over 50,000 fans stayed to give and receive thanks as the players, staff and their families took part in the lap of honour.

The post-game celebrations also included club awards.

Bowen beat Arreola to the hammer of the year

As reported last week, West Ham have scrapped plans for the awards dinner – usually held at a luxury hotel to raise money for the academy.

They were handed out on the field instead, including the prestigious Hammer of the Year award.

This honor has been earned by some of the greats of the game.

The list is graced by names such as Bobby Moore, Sir Jeff Hurst, Sir Trevor Brooking, Billy Bonds, Carlos Tevez, Paolo Di Canio and last season’s winner Declan Rice.

West Ham’s top goalscorer Jarrod Bowen added his name to it in what would likely be a huge win.

Bowen scored 20 goals and provided 10 assists during a fantastic campaign, playing in a variety of positions at times.

But it’s what he does for the team in terms of work ethic that also makes him special. Bowen is pushing the Hammers hard.

However, it seems that one player and his partner did not live up to the award.

Areola’s wife meets Bowen at the awards

Goalkeeper Alphonse Areola was right there with the Hammer of the Year.

But the West Ham star’s wife criticized Bowen winning the award on social media and she retweeted it.

In a rather pathetic, myopic and unnecessary investigation, Marion Arreola announced on Instagram that her husband – who has been truly brilliant all season – did not win the honor.

“Saving the season, fine. But it should have been player of the year and we all know why,” he said with an embarrassed face emoji.

Only he knows what he’s getting into.

But Arreola apparently agreed with his wife.

Because he decided to repost her post on his own Instagram.

It’s not just cricket

Maybe he feels goalkeepers are under-appreciated or under-appreciated?

If so, he clearly has a short memory. Because Areola won Fulham’s Player of the Season award the campaign before he joined West Ham.

On a day that should have been a West Ham family reunion, it was a complete waste.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and of course Areola will get a lot of votes.

But to post it on social media, where Areola’s teammate Bowen and others will see it — and for the ‘keeper to then support him by reposting it — just doesn’t add up.

You don’t treat your teammates like that even if you don’t agree.

Very bad form.
